In Memory of
MAURIE P. HERMAN
1943-2009

The DELTA Community (originally DELTA Housing) is deeply saddened by the untimely sudden passing of one of its original four cofounders 20 years ago in 1989.

Maurie Herman always was thinking about the participants in DELTA’s program that provides intensive case management services for homeless single parents and their children and safe secure housing.  Maurie was DELTA’s first Treasurer and Board member, initially serving for 6 years in those capacities.  After a brief hiatus, Maurie rejoined the Board in 1997 and served continuously until August 11, 2009.  Maurie was instrumental in setting up DELTA’s computerization and was a constant advocate for DELTA’s dedicated case management staff.

His long commitment and service to DELTA helped provide inspiration and help for hundreds of DELTA’s families in obtaining self sufficiency and better lives for them over the years.  The Greater Harrisburg area is a much better place as a result of Maurie’s many contributions through DELTA.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire DELTA Community, thank you, Maurie.

DELTA Community, Inc. Merger with Gaudenzia, Inc. Finalized

On December 10, 2009, the DELTA Community, Inc. formally merged into the Gaudenzia, Inc. umbrella of programs, with the Gaudenzia Foundation, Inc. acquiring all of the assets, including the DELTA headquarters building at 2041-2043 N. Second Street, Harrisburg.  The DELTA case management staff remains in place to provide the same services. The DELTA program will continue and expand now under the supervision and direction of Gaudenzia, with guidance from the DELTA Advisory Board incorporated into Gaudenzia.

All of us connected with the DELTA Community, including our staff and the hundreds of families that benefited from DELTA’s services are so grateful to the many friends, the religious, business and community at large, including local, state and federal government agencies that have supported DELTA for the past nearly 21 years.  Thank you again so much.

Future contributions may be made to Gaudenzia, Inc. and designated for general support of the DELTA program (including designations to the Mary Brandt Fund for general scholarships, M. K. Ross Memorial Scholarship Fund for health care related scholarships or the Harrisburg REALTORS Foundation Fund for permanent housing assistance).  Inquiries should be directed to Julie Girsch, Community Affairs Manager for the Capital Area of Gaudenzia, Inc., at 1910 N. Second Street, Harrisburg, tel. 717-238-4200 x 17.
